Rex Snyder is a seasoned operating executive with more than 29 years of experience in the communications industry. Mr. Snyder is the founder and president of Comven LLC (www.com-ven.com), a consulting firm based in Bellevue, Washington. Comven, established in 1997, is a leading communications technology strategist for private equity and venture capital firms. Comven works with firms investing in the communications sector to help them reduce financial risks in making new investments and improve operating performance in portfolio companies.
Concurrently, Mr. Snyder co-founded and served as senior vice-president and chief technology officer of Javelin Connections, a greenfield broadband service provider based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. With Javelin, he raised venture capital from leading U.S. venture capital firms, directed all technology strategy of the firm, led acquisition of spectrum in the Canadian LMCS auctions, and acquired agreements with major strategic vendors, including Lucent, Perot, Bechtel, and others. Previously, Mr. Snyder co-founded and served as vice-president and chief technology officer of Westlink Paging in San Diego, California. Westlink was a management-led buyout of U S WEST’s paging operations with 450 employees in 18 western states. With Westlink, Mr. Snyder played a key role in developing the company to over $70 million in annual revenues and selling the company to Arch Communications Group in an all cash transaction at a record multiple.
Previously, Mr. Snyder enjoyed an eleven-year career with U S WEST NewVector Group, the wireless subsidiary of U S WEST, where he held a number of positions of increasing responsibility. During NewVector’s initial startup, he led the engineering and deployment of the company’s first eight cellular systems and was the lead technology strategist for corporate development projects. Later, he was the general manager of 23 rural cellular startups and ultimately served as Director of Operations Management, where he guided the institution of P&L management responsibilities across the cellular field organization. Earlier in his career, Mr. Snyder held engineering and operations positions with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and Bell Laboratories.
Mr. Snyder holds an MS from the Design Division of the School of Engineering at Stanford University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University. He has also completed MBA courses in management, economics, marketing, and finance. Mr. Snyder serves on committees of the Northwest Entrepreneur Network and is a member of Institute of Management Consultants, the WSA (formerly Washington Software Alliance), and the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers.
